Abstract
Physiological disturbances at the time of the menopause may simulate any one of a number of recognized disease processes. The differentiationof true thyrotoxicosis from menopausal disturbances has been one of the puzzles which has not been subjected to attack in an objective way. The use of a single determination of the basal metabolic rate even when combined with a complete physical examination is not adequate to determine this separation in some cases. The problem can best be stated by citing an illustrative case.
